A quick overview of the AVR V1 excitation system

The ALSPA™ P320 AVR V1 is a digital excitation systems designed by Alstom® in the early 2000’s with functions like stator voltage control, field (excitation) current control in manual mode, limiters, field flashing, droop and some options like PSS, reactive power control, power factor control, line charging, boosting…

The standard configuration is two redundant channels:

2 Automatic Voltage Regulators channels with integrated Field Current Regulator, with or without connection to a supervision (F8000, Modbus …)

AVR V1 PLC and cards

It mainly consists of GE® Fanuc Series 90-30 cards, named ALSPA™ C80–35. Some specific electronic cards have been produced by Alstom:

  • UMT162: Universal Measurement Treatment module, performs:
  • Synchronous acquisition of stator voltage and current calculation of active power, reactive power, PF …
  • TTM210/TTM211: Thyristor Triggering Module receives the Uc signal (firing angle) sent by the AVR and elaborates the firing pulses for the thyristors.
  • TPI163 : This card interfaces the VT and CT secondaries with UMT 162 card
  • Other cards like IEX164, ILPH, MDEX1, SUCO, TPA 213, TPT 214 can be used according options and applications.

AVR V1 Local Control Panel and maintenance tools

Local Control Panel : Exor Company product name UNIOP MKDR-05.

ControCad™ (CCAD) or Controcad™ Loader are two different software packages used with ALSPA™ P320 AVR V1.

ControCad™ Loader is the minimum configuration to use P80 tools to download the hardware configuration, logic and parameters to controllers.

ControCad™ is the full package which allows to modify and compile the AVR program.

Visurec is a software used for many Alstom cards, not only on ALSPA™ P320 AVR V1. It is used to configure UMT 162, TTM 210/TTM211 and CPU (AVR parameters) and to perform commissioning tests, like voltage steps.
