Retrofit & migration from ControSteam to new Steam Turbine Controler

A quick overview of the ControSteam™ Steam Turbine control system


The ControSteam™ consists of:

  • 2 MFC1000 or MFC3000 cell heads (master/slave)
  • 3 CE1500 field controllers (in a 2-out-of-3 architecture)
  • 2-out-of-3 overspeed rack
  • 2-out-of-3 safety relay
  • 1 clock
  • 1 engineer station.

ControSteam™ PLC and cards

It mainly consists of Some specific electronic cards have been produced by Alstom®:

  • MFC1000 / MFC3000: The ALSPA™ MFC1000 / MFC3000 is a real-time Multi-Function Controller. MFC1000 provides the communication of control data between the field network and the control room. This controller embeds application programs for sequence control and loop control.
  • MPM123: In the ALSPA™ ControSteam™ product, the MPM123 is a safety module (IEC 61508 – SIL3 in 2oo3 configuration) used for machine protection. The MPM123 module can be used as autonomous in the ALSPA™ architecture. It provides threshold detection on critical measurements by “Trip relay”
  • SPC160: Hence the module is a digital servomotor positioner which can be used in STG820 1/1, 2/2 and 2/3 architectures. It is made up of 3 electronic cards, i.e. ISPC1/IP160, ISPC2/AS118 and MACO/UT145, which are mounted in a 8035 type housing
  • Other cards like PS3300, ZF0001, ZF0000, DS1119, AI4632, AO4632, AT4222, DI9371, DI6371, DO8332, CP1485-1, PS9400, X20HB8884, X20HB888.

ControSteam™ maintenance tools

  • Controcad™ (CCAD) is the full package which allows to modify and compile the ControSteam program. It also allow to record the signals through the “evlog”, these are capture blocks that are triggered manually or on a signal level.
  • Visurec is used to configure :
    • SPC 160 to perform commissioning tests, like position loop test
    • MPM123 to configure input parameters and Trip threshold, tune scaling function.
