A quick overview of the Eurorec excitation system
The EUROREC is the last analog excitation system designed by Alstom and was installed in the 1990’s. It had all functions used now a days, automatic channel U/Q/power factor control, manual channel with Iex control. The automatic channel had under and over excitation and flux limitations, boosting …
This system could be configured with a single channel or with two redundant channels.
Each channel could be automatic+ manual or only manual.
Eurorec Regulator cards
Each card has a specific function:
- CAS : Automatic channel setpoint handling
- RS1 : Stator voltage regulation loop
- CMS/CMS1 : Manual setpoint and Auto/Manu switching. Can handle the reactive power setpoint
- RIEX: Excitation current regulation loop
- FITS : Bridge reference voltages conditioning
- GITS : Pulse card for 3 thyristors
- LSES : Under excitation limitation
- LUF2: Flux (U/F) limitation
- ASEX1 : Boosting function
- SP1 : Active power measurement card
- ALS1 : +/-15V power supply card
- Other cards depending on the application.

Eurorec Operation & Maintenance
- Signaling: Status and alarms are transmitted by contact and relayed and some are signaled by LEDs on the cards
- Operation: Some operations can be carried out on the rack (channel switching, signal injection), control is done by means of contacts (buttons on the cabinet or remote contacts)
- Maintenance and tests:
- The main test points are available on the front of the cards and are sufficient for routine checks
- An extension card allows to have access to the cards where other test points are available
- Although this system is very reliable, some components age, capacitors, operational amplifiers…
- These cards are in principle repairable.
